CAN I SEND YOU A DEMO?
We are not currently accepting unsolicited demos. We realize that telling you that isn’t necessarily going to stop you from sending one anyway, so if you are determined to send us something please keep in mind who you are sending it to. Sending us a page of press quotes is a good way to get ignored. We will probably not click on any link you send us either. If you really want to get our attention it’s probably best to send us something in the mail. Our address isn’t listed though, so how badly do you want to get your music in our hands?
HOW DO YOU SHIP YOUR ORDERS?
We ship our orders through the United States Postal Service. In the US, orders that weigh less get shipped First Class and orders that weigh more get shipped Media Mail. Orders shipped outside of the US are generally shipped International First Class.
CAN I GET COPIES OF YOUR RELEASES FOR MY RECORD STORE / DISTRO?
Generally yes, just write us and let us know what you are interested in.
I WANT TO PLACE AN ORDER BUT I DON’T HAVE PAYPAL, CAN I DO THAT?
Yes. If you want to place an order but don’t use Paypal or have a credit/debit card, you can send us a payment through the mail. Before you do that though, get in touch with us and let us know what you want to order so we can hold onto it for you until your payment arrives.
CAN I BUY FOLKTALE RELEASES AT MY LOCAL RECORD STORE?
If you live in Los Angeles, you can often find our releases at Vacation Vinyl and Permanent Records. Occasionally, though very rarely, a release of ours is carried by a distributor and can be ordered from your local record store. All other releases must be purchased through us directly.
IS THERE ANY WAY TO OBTAIN A COPY OF AN “OUT OF PRINT” RELEASE?
If it says that it’s out of print on the site, then we no longer have any copies. You may however be able to find a copy through one of our distributors though. Revolver, Insound, and Rough Trade have been known to carry various Folktale releases at times. You can also try your luck on Discogs to see if anyone is selling a personal copy.
CAN I JUST PURCHASE A RELEASE DIGITALLY?
We have always been about creating a beautiful package; from the music, to the format of the release, to the packaging it comes in. We put a lot of love and hard work into everything we release and want obtaining a release from us to be something special. However, we have given in to modern times and made a lot of our catalog available digitally. This doesn’t just give you the ability to purchase releases in a non-tangible format, it also gives you the option to stream them as well.
WHAT IS A LATHE-CUT RECORD?
A lathe-cut record is a record that is cut by hand, in real time. We don’t consider them to be a substitution for a pressed vinyl record, though it is a format that makes it possible to release vinyl in small quantities. Though the cost per record is much higher, the ability to make, say 30, rather than 300, makes it possible for us to release certain things on vinyl that we wouldn’t be able to otherwise.
WHERE DO YOU GET A LATHE-CUT RECORD MADE?
If you are looking to make a lathe-cut record of your own, Peter King is sorta the godfather of this craft, however he is located in New Zealand. Lathecuts.com is also helpful for finding someone to do this within the United States.
